Default Harley batteries - Quality going downhill? Need recommendations!

I'm currently shopping for a new battery for my '09 Fat Bob. Old one has given up the ghost.

Visited the HD site only to find out the battery they sell for Dynas is only rated 3 out of 5 stars (by Harley owners who have purchased the batteries). What is alarming is that the reviews from a couple years ago were very favorable whereas the reviews over the last year or so are virtually all one star with people saying the batteries are total crap. I have heard HD changed their battery supplier a while back so this might explain things.

So now I need battery recommendations and I won't be going with an HD OEM. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I went with the yuasa last year. It is a 320 cca battery which is a little more than the Harley battery. It starts up nice.

I also bought the tender/ charger.

I use DEKA batteries, never had a problem and they are made in the USA. I believe at one time they made batteries for HD.

Deka and yuasa are made in Pennsylvania. A lot of great products come from Pennsylvania!

+1 on Deka. I've been using them for over 30 years in everything from airplanes to lawn tractors (they don't make aircraft batteries any longer ) and never had a bad one yet. Duracell batteries from Batteries Plus are made by Deka, also.

I bought a bike with a Power-Tec (also made in USA) battery, http://www.midstatebattery.com/power...orts-batteries It was still going strong when I sold it 6 years later.

If you go lithium, make sure the chemistry is Lithium IRON (LiFePo4) NOT lithium Ion (LiPo4). The IRON helps prevent thermal cascade (fires).

I have had both chemistries fail due to dead shorts and an flaming, exploding LiPo is no joke.

I can whole-heartedly recommend Antigravity batteries. Expensive, but super powerful, fails safely, and saves 10 pounds over AGM. Just be aware most LiFePo4 batteries will lose you reserve capacity and all (AFAIK) require a charger rated for them. They require more charge voltage...

I'll second Chris on the Antigravity batteries. I've had one in my Speed Triple for three years, and it's been perfect. I'm very happy with it.

I'll second the yuasa for standard battery. Lithium would be nice if you have the cash.
