Default Upgrading from 12” mini apes to 14” regular apes

Hey all, new to the forum. Just had a quick question for anyone who might know. I’m currently running the Roland Sands 12” Black Ops mini apes on my 2008 Street Bob. When I bought the bike, that’s what they came with. I recently purchased some 14” regular apes and I’m wondering if I will need to swap out cabling for adding the extra 2”. Any help would be much appreciated!

I never knew 12" apes were considered mini apes.

You might need too....
I put three inch risers on 14in bars and didn't change the cables, it had 1in risers before. No issues

Any idea if cables were changed for the 12s?

14s generally can be hit and miss depending on brands. For the life of me and my indy harley mechanic, we couldn't get the stock cables to work the brake side. ABS version here. Wild1 Chub bars 14". I went with +4 , worth it , plenty of slack now and full turns are no problem from the cables being too tight without slack. Upgraded to steel braided.

You wont fully know until you do the install.

Im not sure if the cables were new honestly. I’m the third owner of the bike and the first is who put them on. I’m going to try installing next week and let you know. It seems like they have plenty of play at least in the pictures. I’ll check more once I’m home from work. Thanks!

I'm guessing you will need longer. I'd guess they just got away with stock when putting 12 inch on. I've just done 14's I used +6 on the clutch, might get away with +4 . Ok, it's a Softail.

I have 14" apes on my 99 FXDX.

Clutch cable for sure needs replacing as stock length didn't allow full travel for the steering.

I did get longer throttle cables as well as they stock ones were binding! A bit over kill perhaps

Cheers
