08 Wide Glide skull fuel gauge question...

08 Wide Glide skull fuel gauge question...
The last part of my Willie G conversion is the skull gas cap & fuel gauge.
Harley part #75098-08A shows that it will fit the 08 Night Train and Softail, but won't fit an 08 Wide Glide. Both gauges have the same color 3 wires, connector looks the same, but they say it won't work. This part number will work on a 2010 FXDWG, just not an 08. Has anyone tried making this work? Any ideas as to why it wouldn't?
I'm really tempted to bite the bullet and make a $160 gamble that it will work, but wanted to check here first.
Any advice or guidance will certainly be appreciated.
