Default remote fob

Bike is now only 1000 miles old and the fob (alarm) suddenly did not disarm when next to the bike. 0530 in the morning and alarm is going off..........heck its loud.

Spare fob worked.............obviously both fobs are the same age so doubt it could be battery problem..............why would one work and one not. ?

any ideas................thanks

It could be battery if you use one more than the other

Actually I'm pretty sure the Fob doesn't have a battery, it's RFID and gets its power from the transmitter on your bike.

I'm not REALLY sure how the Fob works in this application but I'd assume there's some sort of memory IC, like the CMOS chip on a computer, that stores all of the data (which would include the code that is matched to your security device). If this is the case then a strong magnet might wipe the memory leaving you with an inoperative Fob...

That or it just stopped working for some reason...

You're right! Guess I should check next time...

Perhaps this isn't RFID afterall...

Passive RFID tags don't have batteries (like the ones in those credit cards you can just tap on the reader) but active and simi-active ones do. I would guess that based on the size of the FOB there is room for an active tag, a passive tag could fit in the key itself.
