I just use breaker bars. Put a cheater if you have to. Some people say I am stupid for following the manual and not using a impact. I jut don't find it that hard to do. I tie back brake down. Shove something in between chain and sprokcets. I get little nervous shoe will break.
Clutch of course is reverse thread.

I never looked at that as porch steps lol.
I think that was some type of lock that used to be used but for some reason they've changed it. That picture is from the official factory service manual. I made one from some stainless bar stock at work in about 2 minutes...i saw them for sale for 20 bucks !!! Some guys have made them out of a piece of hardwood too.

I used piece of snowmobile slide, which is hard plastic. I have heard plastic cutting boards. Rags, soft pine. I am not locking the sprockets but jamming the chain. Which does make me little nervous about stressing shoe.
I would replace inner bearing when I had it off probably. My 01 I replaced at 35k got another 45k and still fine. Didn't need to be replaced, and was repalced with after market My 07 I had to replace it around 30 and had to do it again around 57. Second time I went with baker one piece bearking, without race. It stays on shaft. Bought a cheap puller to get the old race off.
I don't know if 07 is putting more stress on it, or the cheap bearings they are using now. 01 is 98", so its not the increased power by any means.
