That's a good looking ride. I may have to get a fatter tire after all in the years to come.

 

anyone try this on a 99 lowrider?

 

My Wide Glideon a Metzeller 150 rear tire. The tire gets as close to about a centimeter on both sides of the fenders but they dont rub ever. The rear looks awesome.

great pics, great tires for sure. I am going with the 150. It makes the stock 130 look like a bicycle tire.

 

I thought this was solved....I was going to just buy the 150 for the 99WG, but my buddy and I went riding today and he has a Fatboy. He went from the 130 rear tire to the 150 on his bike and said he had to buy a conversion kit for like 500 bucks. I think it included a thinner final drive belt so the thicker tire would not rub. I looked at my tire and where it lands within the fender housing and how close it is to the drive belt. It looks awfully close to the final drive belt as it is let alone going to the 150 wider tire.
You guys say that the 150 goes on with no rubbing anywhere? If so, that's great, but it looks so darn close to me I just want to be sure.........

 

The 150 tire doesnt need the slightest modification (like swingarm spacers, etc.)on the wide glidethough it really comes close to the belt and fender sides. But its safe and works fine and doesnt rub anywhere. Here are some realclose-up shots, Butcher, to prove that its absolutely possibe with a 150 tire. I've put on a number of miles on it without the slightest problems.

The Butcher - You do not need a "wide tire kit" for your '99, but you will need a new belt from a 2000 or newer dyna. There are narrower and you will need that for clearance. The narrower belt is a 133 tooth. I have not done this yet to my '97 as I am waiting for my new tires. I will be running a 150 Metzler ME880 on the rear also with a "stock size" wheel.

Kalil - You didn't need to do any mods as you already have the narrower belt - your bike is a 2001, if your profile is correct.

I agree that the 99, being that they still have the thick belt, would need to have some modification to go to a 150. I chose to go with a 140 for the rear this time just because I really don't want to sink any more money than I have to into the whole tire thing since I am allocating my funds toward other options right now on the bike. I think the 140 will look fine for now and later on I can go to the 150 (or wider) when the time comes for new rubber again.

I am running a 180 Metzeler on my stock swingarm, with stock belt. My mechanic here in Thailand had to grind down the rear fender from theinside as much as possible. However there was not much room left as you can imagine. The looks was great off course...!

In the mean time I changed back to a 160 Michelin which works good on my new rear fender (and new paint job)
