Default first oil change

Ok, so I get the oil, oil filter, and filter removal tool from Patriot HD and go home to change the oil. I pull the drain plug, drain the oil and replace the plug oil ring. Sofar so good! Next I try to use the tool on the oil filter and the washer tac-welded onto the tool breaks free. This is the washer that has the square hole that the socket wrench fits into. I had to go ahead and replace the oil and leave the filter for another time. Man, I hate it when that happens. You guys ever have something like that happen when you work on your bikes?

They do tend to tighten up, though. Just like a car, you need the tool to loosen it up.

Hand tight on, but it sounds like it broke trying to remove the filter, yes? Just don't let that other time get too far off

The tool broke, not the filter mount. Thank the Lord!

On my other bike... Man I like saying that ... I used a flat blade screw driver to tap the rim of the filter in a counter clockwise motion to get it to come off. That thing was frozen solid.

Why not? I change my oil every 1000 and filter every 2000.
