I've been toying with the idea of swapping a Wide Glide style bobtail rear fender to my '09 Super Glide Custom. I definitely prefer the older (pre '06) fender over the later ('06-'08 or '10-'17). I'm not sure if there's a difference between the Evo era fender and the early Twin Cam era fender.
Does anybody have a width measurement for the fender? I'm not sure if the distance between the rear struts is the same on a '06+ Dyna relative to an older Wide Glide. I seem to recall the newer FXDWG and FXDF struts being wider, but not sure about the older ones.
My rear fender measures about 8 1/2" wide.
Not 100% sure I'm actually going to do it, but my tins are getting repainted this winter, so now would be the time.
This style fender.
I still have the fender from my '99. I can get you any measurements you want.
It's 7" wide at the mounting points.
The 99 was a bit of an oddball in some respects. It still shares a lot with the Evo years. I believe, but can't confirm, that the fender struts, fender, and maybe swingarm were widened for (or before) '06.
Thanks. I'm measuring mine on the bike, which is obviously not exactly accurate, but it's definitely wider than 7".
I'm sure a talented fabricator could widen the fender to make it work, but I'm not a talented fabricator. And it would probably throw off the proportions.
I'll investigate newer ('00-05?) Wide Glides. If they're not the same width as mine, I'll probably stick with my original fender.
