Default i know i'm not losing my hearing

I don't know why but my V&H BSS just don't sound right anymore. I've only got about 600 miles on them (1200 on the bike) and they just don't sound loud and mean anymore. At idle, or even when I blip the throttle at a standstill or get on it on the highway, they just sound alot quieter. It could just be me but I really don't think so. Has this happened to anyone else?

No issues like that with mine. My guess is that you're just getting used to them. I think my bike doesn't sound near as loud as it used to, but I know deep down that it is. I think that's why we spend so much time and cash on our scoots. You get used to it, and want to put more stuff on.

I have the same pipes and they only sound too quiet when I ride in a state requiring a helmet. When I get to a state with no helmet law, they sound just fine again. Must be something in the air in those states that deadens the sound?

Your just getting use to them. Take a ride with a helmet for about a hour. Then take the helmet off. You'll fall in love all over again!

How rich is your bike running? If it is too rich carbon could be building up on the baffle and acting like a better baffle. Car mufflers will do this.

that makes some sense bc when i first installed the pipes, a/c and pcIII she was running super hot. i hadn't had a chance to get it dynotuned and everyone here recommended to really richen up the mixture until i did so (which i still haven't) assuming that is this case, how do i clean out the baffles

Not sure about the 06-07 BSS, but removing the baffles in older BSS is a pain. There is only one screw (per baffle) which is on the back of the pipe. For some reason that must make sense to someone, the screw is covered by the heat shield. The only way I could access the screw was to loosen all of the heat shield clamps then pull the loose heatshield as far back as I could - this exposed the screw.

hope they fixed this "screw-up" in the 06 and later.

good luck

No change. They did this to make it dificult to remove the bafles. When I decide to change my baffles I will be drilling a hole in the shield to make it easier to get to the screw.
