Wide Glide Windshield Question

Wide Glide Windshield Question
Posting for a buddy….
He has a 2001 Wide Glide and has just installed an H-D detachable windshield. He now suffers from severe buffeting under the windshield. Enough to blow you baseball hat off, part your beard, put your gold necklace into your mouth, un-tuck your t shirt, you get he picture?
Does H-D, or some other aftermarket company, make a smaller shield that attaches under the headlight that would eliminate this buffeting? I think I remember seeing something like this but I don’t know where.
Any ideas???

I have a 04 WG and have a windshield on it.
I use a vest called Jacks Flaps.

It works great.

RE: Wide Glide Windshield Question
Vest works for me too.
Search the forum because this problem seems to affect all the Dyna models.
There have been many posts covering this topic.
Somebody fabricated a plate to cover the opening around the headlight.
Some have put a fork bag on the bike to help block the wind.
The buffeting can be annoying and can be dangerous if severe enough.

RE: Wide Glide Windshield Question
He may want to look at a set of lower wind deflectors. Memphis Shades make some that mount to the lower forks. I modified a set made for Street Glides I bought from the dealer to attach to my windshield and it helped with buffeting. I have also heard installing a tank lift kit can help.
Installing an engine guard with foot rests can help by redirecting airflow when repositioning your feet.
I have also found a GOOD full face helmet (like a Nolan) can help a lot. The cheap ones I tried made things worse.

RE: Wide Glide Windshield Question
Buy a road king shield and use the H-D detachable hardware. They sell the shields for dyna not wide like the other shields. The air goes around the shield on both sides and over the top at the same time. try a wider shield and taller. The tank lift helps put the air under the tank area. Reangleing the shield will help but the shield is still to short. Placeing a plate behind the headlight area stop air around the front of the bike. IfI would of know all this my bike would have been the road glide.
