I screwed up and I'm so lost. I am waiting to talk to my mechanic back home in Boston, because I can't figure out what he did to the front end.
The front forks measure 30 in from center axle to the top of the fork. THAT'S 2 INCHES!!! How the F*** did he manage to do this on cartridge springs?
I'm in San Jose now and wonder if anyone knows a solution? possibly a reliable mechanic I can trust to do great work.

Hard to say.. He might have shortened the damping rod or simply added a spacer between the rod and rebound valve.
