I think I used 1" spacers plus a washer on each end. I'm out of town or I'd verify.
I would love to see what you did when you get back if you don't mind. I don't have any work planned, but I would like to be able to lift my bike, you never know when the need will arise.
I JUST went through this mod last week, and finally had my bike in the air. At first, like you, I didn't use spacers, and I couldn't make it work. It just would not clear everything. I picked up some spacers at Ace Hardware, and voila! Works great. The kickstand does get in the way, no way around that. What I did was lift the stand and straighten up the bike, then slide the lift under until the pads were under the frame on both sides. Then raised it up. Very stable, but I still used straps for good measure.
This topic confuses me. You spent probably 10K plus on a motorcycle and want to modify a cheap Chinese made lift with cheap hardware? Why not just invest in a J&S?

Finally, success. Thanks all for the suggestions and pics. My hardware store had these things "shaft collars" which are pretty beefy.
Moving the pad out on the kickstand side was no help, because I still couldn't pull it in any closer to the kickstand. So I had to use double collars on the other side. I'm just able to get the jack in there, it contacts the rubber jiffy stand bumper but not enough to matter.
I'm now able to raise my bike all the way. What's interesting is that the Dyna is SO MUCH more stable on the jack than my Sporty ever was.
Would I like a $500 J&S jack? SURE! But for the few times a year I'll use this jack, I can't justify it.

because unless you run or work in a shop spending money on a jack is not an investment. Good tires are an investment.
if you put a bike on a $600 lift and change its oil then put an identical bike on a modified $100 lift and change its oil, did the 1st bike get a "better" oil change?

J&S jacks come with a Chinese bottle jack. Hey, I'd buy a J&S if I had the coin. There's so many things to spend money on, lighting upgrades, quality protective gear, insurance, etc. You could use your argument on all the above. It comes down to priorities for me. If I find I need to lift the bike a lot, than a better jack may be moved up on the list.

No. My bike spent half the winter on my HF lift while I was doing all the upgrades. I had 100% confidence in it.
