RE: 06 FXDCI RECALL for Battery mount bolt?
I received that same letter last December. I still haven't gotten it taken care of, soon though. Here's what it says...
"Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2006 model year Dyna motorcycles, built from June 17, 2005 to February 6, 2006. These vehicles contain a battery caddy bolt, part number 4763, which may loosen under normal riding conditions. Should this occur, the bolt can back out which allows the battery to shift position and then hold the battery in a position which may allow the battery terminals to contact the metal battery caddy cover and abrade through the positive terminal protective boot. If this occurs, the battery can short against the cover, causing sparks and possibly a fire, which could cause an accident leading to injury or death to the rider."
It goes on to say that the dealer owes you a free fix and if he pisses you off to call Harley at 1-414-343-4056. If Harley manages to **** you off call Administrator, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Auto Safety Hot Line 1-888-DASH-2DOT or www.safercar.gov
You can also go to the Harley site or to the recall site and run your VIN and it'll tell you if you need to get some work done.
