Finally removed the stock exhaust bracket on Street Bob (wedged between motor/frame)
Just thought I would post my version of removing that stock exhaust bracket that has been on my bike since new in 2010. In the past, I had easily given up trying to remove it because there was no way to fit any tools in there get at the Torx bolts. I am in the middle of swapping my Short Shots out for a custom 2-1 exhaust and I decided to actually put effort into removing it while I had the exhaust out of the way.
I dremel cut a Torx T-27 bit down and put it into this mini ratcheting 1/4 wrench I got from Amazon. After moving the rear brake rod and the clutch cable out of the way, this tool easily fit in there and removed all 3 bolts in less than 5 minutes.
Here is pic of the bracket and tool I used:
Here is the link to the tool on Amazon:
I realize there are many ways to skin the cat but this way was clearly less work than other suggested ways such as unbolting the motor mount and jacking the motor up. I did initially attempt to remove it with just the cut down Torx bit and a pair of locking pliers but the bit kept either slipping out or falling out. This tool kept the bit solidly in place while I loosened the bolts without stripping the heads. Anyone need the bracket? It is currently in my trash can.
