Default Gap on Front Axle Between Spacer and Slider

Was installing the front wheel after having a new tire mounted and I was just curious if everyone else's Dyna has this gap between the right-hand wheel spacer and the RH slider. Note that this gap does not mean the wheel can move back and forth, because when you torque the axle nut on the LH slider the RH wheel spacer tightens up against a machined shoulder in the axle. The H-D service manual has you set the RH slider on the axle by placing a 7/16" drill bit in a hole in the axle and moving the slider against the drill bit. The RH slider cap then clamps the slider in place on the axle. The gap I am referring to comes about due to the distance between the hole in the axle and the shoulder on the axle the spacer sits against.

Don't worry about it.. Number of HD have that gap. As long as the axle and cap bolts are tight, you're good.

I know that the manual says to have the 7/16 drill touching the slider on my DX but IMO It's better to torque the axle then loosen the pinch bolts and let the slider find it's natural position on the axle. This keeps the sliders from having friction on the tubes. The drill bit thing can work well at getting the spacing right when you have dual front disks but for single disc, it don't make much difference.

Yeah mine had a very tiny gap, much smaller than your picture(about the thickness of a piece of poster paper). I just pressed the fork slider in until it touched the spacer then tightened the pinch bolts.
