Default Screaming eagle 103 kit

Who's installed this? I need to benefit from your experience......

I need to do a top end rebuild in any case, so might as well go for the 103 kit since ill be buying all the bits anyway.

Aside from the Kit, what else do I need to purchase, or is the 103 kit complete as is??

Can you post a link to which 103 kit you're looking at?

Ive done a se117 and it was very easy. That kit came with cylinders/Pistons, injectors, throttlebody, cams/lifters/pushrods, and gaskets so I didn't need any other parts. I did need a cam bearing install/removal kit and a cam/crank locking tool.

Dont know what year or model you have but I'd actually suggest a fuel moto 107 or 110 kit. I love my 117 but if it wasn't for warranty purposes I would have gotten it from fuel moto and made way more power for about the same price. Learn from my mistake

hope this helps a little

This kit

I would love to go bigger with a fuel moto or S&S kit, but I just wont get away with it at the DoT here, so I have to go with Moco upgrades. Plus I dont have a load of cash to spend so im keeping the budget as skinny as possible. This is necessary build as opposed to wanna have it build. Bike is dead at the moment.

Buying a kit for the 103 is actually cheaper than all the necessary 96ci parts.

Am correct in thinking that the head, valves, rockers etc from the 96 just bolt back on to the 103 or do I need to upgrade those as well??

Yes the heads and everything up top will bolt right back on. Although you will probably have a little harder start, unless you either put in compression releases (auto like the 103's came with stock, or manual) or beef up the starting system. FYI compression releases are far cheaper that the starting system, especially if you do it while the heads are off the first time....

this is Switzerland, they know. DoT inspections here are like a body cavity search. Horribly inconvenient and very revealing......

Awesome, compression releases it is.... or maybe a Spyke starter, decisions decisions....

Was planning to do cams as my winter project, but this will have to take priority now. Hopefully i'll be able to do both, in which case comp releases will probably be a necessity.

MoCo page says I need to reflash the ECM at the dealer, I assume a FuelPak FP3 will do the same thing with base 103 map then auto tune?

easy start cams negate compression releases. If you were gonna do cams any way.

hd sells a bolt on 110 jugs/piston only set... from the sound of it, you are basically about to do a kit over the winter.

these magical inspection folks... are crampping you

Sadly the 110 kit is out of my budget.
