Default ? for people using the FP3

So I am tuned with the FP3. A couple of days ago I wanted to experiment with the auto tune feature. I am running a V&H exhaust so they had map that is compatible with my bike and mods. I know auto tune is not really necessary, but could auto tuning a canned map make the map worse? Excuse me if this is a silly question but any feedback is greatly appreciated.

It shouldn't, especially if you try your damnedest to fill all the squares...good luck with that lol

Try it. If you don't like the results then don't flash it and go back to canned map. But I think you'll like it.
I ran auto tune for 600 miles and various throttle positions and RPMs up and down mountains to get a good tune before I flashed it. The factory map and canned map are saved and can go back to them any time.
Caution. Each time you SAVE it will erase the yellow/green cells matrix so take a screen shot before SAVING. You don't lose the cells that were learned but the new matrix won't show that.

Also while it is auto tuning it won't run great, make sure you apply and finalize before judging the tune. Your base map will be saved in a separate slot so you can always go back to it.

I was about to say the same thing as Todd, during the auto tune the bike will not run as well as when complete. When I had mine I would save and finalize after every ride and then use that base for my next auto tune. Just a few times and it was pretty darn good!

Do not update your autotune map while you are on the road, make sure you are home and safe first, because if it does not turn over, you can be in trouble, the FP3 sucks the battery when you try to upload maps a few times, also put your battery on a tender while you are playing around, ask me how I know lol.

The FP3 is an amazing device.

When you Auto Tune a map, it saves that map you are modifying (just as it saves the original oem map). After you "finish" and save your Auto Tune map, you'll have it along with the map you performed the auto tune on.

The Auto Tune should improve any map you start with.

Be aware that during the Auto Tune process, your bike may stumble or blip, especially at low rpms etc. Once you save the Auto Tune map and exit the Auto Tune process, this will go away.

Others have brought out these points. I'm just reiterating.

The FP3 also allows you to edit your base map to accommodate, larger displacements and different cam selections.

I would love to see a dyno chart for a dyno-tuned engine and then a dyno chart for the same engine after an FP3 Auto Tune. I bet the curves are close.

Go for it.

The last time I did any FP3 work on the Road Glide I pulled the headlight fuse prior to any power on off sequences, also left the smart tender plugged in. Seem to help saving the battery.
