My trade is a 2015 LR that has 19000 miles. All servicings done at the dealership I bought the bike from. Full dealer-installed Stage 1 (PV2, V&H Big Shots, DK Customs 587 AC, and DK Customs Discreet Breather system). Always covered and garaged. Never dropped.

 

So you are thinking of paying something like 7K to upgrade from LR to LRS?

I am not a LR expert, but what the 2017 model gives you that your 2015 is not?

 

Correct, I would be upgrading from a well-kept 2015 LR w/ 19000 miles to a new 2017 LR S with 2 miles. It would take my bike and $8K (assuming the dealer would say yes) to get the LR S.

I will admit there is not a huge leap going from the LR 103 to the LR S 110 SE, but I do not like the 2018 Softail LR. So, I would be doing it to get the last of the true LRs.

I demo'd the LR S last year and like the bike. Did 3 rides on it.

If I keep what I got, I will have to get something from the current line-up in a few years and I do not like what I see.

 

OK, I see. The LRS has bigger engine and probably looks better.

I am all for buying what you want and satisfies you, either physically or mentally or in any way.

So go for it, but negotiate a better deal.

Have you listed your bike on craigslist yet? You maybe able to get more than 9k for it.

One thing when you negotiate, you have to set your offer 2-3k bellow your target price. So if your target price is 15750, you have to offer 13500 out the door. It may sound unreasonable, but this is how it works.

Dealers do the same thing, only the other way around.

 

for the $10k difference you could put a hell of an S&S motor in your LR and keep all your other accessories instead of rebuying them.

Another thought Ike, Keep your 14 low rider for cruising around town and take $8k cash and go buy a brand new GSXR 600, its way faster in all categories.

Someone I work with just bought a new LR-S for $15,000 even... But there was a trade involved, so it's hard to say how money was moved around. But it was definitely a strong deal. He went to two local dealers, and the second one beat the first deal by about $1,700 including the trade and the new bike. The trick is to find something you want to buy that has been sitting... Some dealers are anxious to get rid of aged product.

 

Sounds like you want a new bike just because you want a new bike if that makes sense..if you're will to trade yours and add 8 on top for a bike tag your gonna have to customize from scratch again doesn't seem reasonable

use that 8k in mods and make it way better than the factory will ever offer it
