Actualy there is something you can do to protect yourself pre-patent. Write up your idea/invention as completely as possible include drawings. Take it to somewhere and have it noterized. I also heard(thissounded a little far fetched to me)that you should take that put it in an envelope address it to yourself and mail it to yourself. Do not open it, and keep it in case of a patent dispute. This supposedly is a way to prove you had the idea first. The worst part about these things is that documents can be forged and corporations have more money to fight you in court.

The best thing to do in my opinion is write up the idea, have drawings, and a prototype. Then get a lawyer to draw up a non-disclose agreement. Contact companies already making bike accessories and see if you can arrange a meeting with someone there. Give them enough info to get their interest but not enough for them to guess what you've done. Have them sign the non-disclosure agreement and then demo the product for them. If they like it, offer to sell the idea or ask for royalties.

Just some thoughts.

I have sent the idea and the blueprints to myself in a notorized envelope already! that works! my professor in college had like 30. he waited for someone to do all the work and then he would just cash in on it... very shady but legal none the less

Your ride looks ultra clean. Where to you carry your stuff when you make a long ride like that?
