Default Fat Bob Shocks are pretty good

I can't speak to the new LRS shocks or even the old XT shocks, but the shocks that come on street bobs, super glides etc aren't that great. I would say FLD shocks are the same quality as FXDF shocks, thats what I run on my Street Bob, only difference is the FLD shocks accept the bolt cover on top which really works for the retro look. I really wanted to give my super glide a slammed appearance but it didn't work for me comfort wise, so now I have a set of $269 11" (+,- 1/2")drag specialties rider adjustable shocks. I'll probably put them on my wifes bike, but we'll see. I picked up the FXDF shocks a few years ago with the intention of putting together another FL style dyna.
Anybody wondering about the DS adjustable, they're pretty good quality for the price, I would recommend, but if your in the 6' range and have a 57 year old back, I'd recommend the 12".
Here's before, wanted to go with exposed springs with my exposed front end. These are set at 11 1/4" Not even gonna try 11 1/2"

The Fat Bob Shocks are 12" eye to eye as they sit-Big difference, just went for a short ride and they're much better on my back.

Yep. I run 'em on my '02 & have recommended them to others. Nice upgrade for short dollars.

I ride an 09 FXDF with 9500 miles. I am prepping for a multistate ride in the fall
So shocks are on my mind as I have not been happy with the ride so far...too harsh.....then I noticed they are pre loaded at position 2 of 5.....duh!! and I am 285 at 6 foot.....so maybe I need to give a fair chance (and a higher preload setting prob 5) after reading what you guys say about FXDF shocks maybe they will ride better...the other thing is I do want a "better looking" shock, exposed springs etc....ALSO because I am a big guy maybe I better plan on some new heavy duty shocks anyway... so anyone out there weighing in the high 200s happy with stock FXDF shocks? I am open to suggestions....(go on a diet ha ha ) shocks seem to be a subject like politics and religion....just looking for ideas for FXDF shocks for big guys I just completed a rear fender conversion to 2010 DXDWG and use Wideglide strut covers , if any of that makes a difference
Thanks

I run mine on 2, solo (225lbs) & crank 'em up to 3 when the missus comes with. She doesn't ride very often, but did remark on how much better it rode with the FXDF shocks & FL front end.

250 lbs run em at 4 all the time and all good, when missus jumps on bump em to 5 and no problems at all, pretty good shock all around, ps forget heavy duty shocks they will break your back.
