Default Rear Pulley Upgrade

Has anyone replaced their stock (crappy) rear pulley with a better one? or both front and rear pulleys?

I did it many years ago. Best mod I have ever done. Look up HDPILOT thread for the most detailed writeup on the front pulley. Rear is much easier to do than front.

I can hear a resonance coming from my rear pulley. Sort of a whining sound on occasion - especially on decel. I can make it go away by wiping down my belt and rear pulley and applying a very light coat of silicone grease to the edges of the belt. After about 1500 miles or so the resonance slowly comes back.

Observing the rear pulley itself I find an uneven discoloration on the inner edge of the pulley. It also has a feel and a "ring" similar to the whine I hear if I tap on it. I just think the damn thing is a crappy engineered part, not particularly well balanced and probably has a higher than acceptable run-out.

Interesting. My Thunderstar pulley was nice (solid and silent), but that wasn't stock.

Verify your rear wheel alingment and belt tension, I am saying this because you mention lubing the belt edge improves the condition, which leads me to believe your wheel is out of alingment.. Belt tension set too tight will also make noise.
