What bike does this tank belong to?
Hey guys, newer member here and this is my first Harley. So I bought this 1999 fxdx. I was told that the tank was swapped to a larger tank and it was from an injected bike. I have a feeling the original was damaged and this is all the owner could find to replace it. I have a lot of questions.
What bike does this tank belong to?
Iv seen similar tanks with a strap running down the tank. I would like to know what that part is called?
Was this a Mickey Mouse job?
The tank has 2 tiny dings on one side. Is it worth pulling the tank and making it pretty again or should I get a new aftermarket tank. Original tank?
Appreciate any and all input. Thanks

Yeah, somebody cleaned up the weld seam that runs down the middle and got rid of the tank console that normally covers it and rear tank mount. the console that's on there is either customized or isn't correct for that tank since you can see the pump access/cover.
If it's larger capacity, it ~might~ be a wide glide tank. Mine is 5.2 gallons vs the rest of the lineup which was 4.9. I'm not sure about late model bikes, tho. I believe Fat Bobs got the bigger tank. Maybe others, too.

Thank you guys for the input so far. I think nemosengineer is right. I don't believe the tank has been painted and I guess that explains why the gauges don't fit right. So I hate how the guages don't look/fit right, so does anyone have suggestions on how I can make it look better. Will one of the tank "bibs" from a low rider cover around the guages? Also, am I better off changing out the tank?

That gauge "Console" was never on a EFI bike.
It's from a 96-03 Low Rider with a separate sheetmetal Trim Panel which won't fit over the slightly raised EFI Tank access cover/bolt heads.
Beginning in 2004 Low Riders used a 1pc console/panel that's in a form that will receive those protrusions.
Can't say for sure, but i think you should be able to get that 1pc to work for you. might need some slight mods, but maybe not

Yeah, that 1pc Low Rider console might not fit that tank real well (dunno for sure) because the fat bob is 5gal and LR is 4.7/4.8 gal.
You could probably use a Fat Bob/"Custom"(FXDC)/some Wide Glide console. That should fit of course. Only 1 gauge hole though. You could fill the hole and move the gauges to the bars (where they were originally on the FXDX)
