Advice on 2006 FXDI35 35th
I am thinking of purchasing an 06 35 anniversary super glide. I have a 2010 Softail Deluxe and sold my Sportster about 2 years ago. I am keeping the softail but want another bike more of a naked bike like my sporty but bigger and more comfortable. I have found the FXDI35 locally and for a good price, around 7k with 12k miles on it. The thing that concerns me is the problem with the inner primary bearing some have had. Is this still an issue? This bike is at an indy used bike dealer so who knows who the previous owner is. How can I find out if any thing has been done on this bike in regards to the IPB? Any input is appreciated.

My son's 06 Street Bob IPB went out at about 40K. He ordered the Baker one and had the job done in his garage in three hours. His total cost was $50. The other 06 issue was the cam tensioner blocks. He also checked them at 40K and found very little wear. That was several years ago and they're still fine.
He chose the Baker one because it was an easier install. However in my opinion with the TC 88 06 model doing the hydraulic tensioner upgrade is the best way to go.
My 05 Deluxe has the 5 spd and no worry about the IBP. I haven't changed the cam tensioners because I built it into a show bike and it doesn't go down the highway anymore.
That bike sounds like a good buy and is a very sharp looker. Do the cam tensioner up front and the bike will give you plenty of advance warning before it goes. It will rattle progressively more when you pull the clutch in at idle.

I was also told by a HD mechanic part of the IPB problem was overtensioning by the "new"auto primary tensioner. Gorgeous paint on 06 anniversary Dyna's; too bad it's on the bastard year of TC Dyna's (still 88 inch, but 6 speed. Good EFI, injectors changed up since. Also alternator loosening probs)

Absolutely. The FXDI35 looks awesome but those "bastard-year" problems that occurred as the Dyna family was transitioning to the new frame, 96" Twin Cam and 6-speed transmission makes the 2006 models very unappealing. It's disappointing because I really wanted a FXDI35 when I was Dyna shopping.

I really want you guys to be more positive about this bike I called HD customer service and asked about the bike and the history they have. Fount out it was built Dec 12 of 2005. The lady was very nice and said the 15k free replacement for the bearing has stopped but is handled on a case by case basis in the event of a failure. From what I am reading its not that hard a job if I do it myself and use the Baker bearing.

It certainly wouldn't stop me from buying it if everything else was right about it...color, options/mods, cost, condition, etc.
Every year is gonna some some roll-of-the-dice issue. Mine is cam chain tensioners. If you like the bike, you deal with the flaws. If you can't deal, move on and don't look back.
