Apes & hp/tq

Apes & hp/tq
Just wondering how those of you with tall ape hangers and high horsepower/torque like the ride? Is it comfortable when you stomp on it? I'm going to be installing my 16s on my fxdls soon and was wondering since I have plans to make big power, is it gonna feel awkward or harder to control when I'm heavy on the throttle? How much hp/tq do you have and how tall are your handlebars? How do you feel and what would you change? Thank you for the input.

I just swapped from apes to tbars. the apes were uncomfortable. I ride pretty aggressive and my back and legs would start to hurt. I only have 1 45 mile ride on my tbars, but they feel way better. the bike feels under control and I can maneuver the bike alot quicker and more precisely as opposed to my apes. My apes were 14's on a 1 inch riser. the apes were not nurled, so if I hat a bump at speed the bars would push forward which was scary at 85+ mph. The apes also seems to have too much flex in them, they would shake and rattle alot. The tbars are strong and solid. I feel a way more comfortable ripping the bike with tbars.

I have had 12", 14" apes on 3 different bikes and they are so very comfortable. Like tbars, get the best you can afford. Any reputable company will have them drilled/dimpled/knurled. None of mine ever shook or rattled nor could you feel any flex - they were very solid. I would say it is a personal comfort decision, but you really can't go wrong with either. Some day I want to try tbars again but I just love the comfort and look of the apes.

Yea I love the look of apes. I have 16 el Diablos from my old street bob that I love. Those are what I'm putting on my lrs. I dunno what "knurled" means though (that's probably stupid of me but I've never heard that term until now). Anyway I loved them on my street bob but that had a lot less power than my lrs currently has and I plan on doin the HD 117 kit. I guess if worst comes to worst I could always switch back but that would be 600 down the drain for risers, clutch/brake cable/line and whatever the wiring extension costs.

I've got monkey bars (mini apes) 12"
100+ hp & tq (soon to be more)
They fit me perfect / able to do any maneuver @ any speed - ridden for hours on end.., no comfort complaints

I have some 12" bars and just upped my motor to around 90/110. Previously it was around 80/100 and at high speed I never had an issue. Taking off it just took time to get used to the upper body position, but corners are a different story. Since you can't straighten your arms much further as you lean into a corner you have to shift your weight more by moving your butt side to side which can be difficult with boards or forward mounts.

On my Roadglide I have 16" apes and I built/tuned it. Its a 124" with 143hp 140 tq sae from memory (I tune a lot of bikes so its hard to remember). And I have never had any issues with the bars or power. I also have a 2003 nightrain I built in 05 with a 98 inch motor and 18" apes its 99hp 115tq ish with no problems. I love apes they are the most comfortable bars to ride but so are tall tbars, on my Low Rider S I have lucky 13s on it and I am waiting on my heads for that one right now it should be over the 140 hp/tq mark with the taller tbars.
