to paint or not to paint?

to paint or not to paint?
OK, GF's brother is a painter and has done for 25+ years, in the auto body business for 30. I keep telling him I'm going to pull the tank and fenders and drop em off. His answer is always, "still waiting"
I've had the front/rear fender off a few times but never the tank. What's entitled? No gauges on my tank except the fuel gauge. What type of prep work will need to be done to the tank prior to paint, other then completely draining it?
I have the big manual and know my way around a tool box.
Looking to go a nice gunmetal grey, color thoughts No Black.

Removing the tank involves removing the console and unplugging the guages, un plugging the fuel guage, and unhooking the fuel outlet. Oh, and the crossover. Do your best to ride as much gas out of it as possible, less messy. Removing the fuel pump and guage sending unit is a hassle. That's about it. The fuel guage electrical lines will have to be removed from their connector.
I'm partial to blue, so Big Blue Pearl would be my choice if I was going to change colors. Or Chrome Yellow.
