Screamin Eagle cam ID
I just bought my first HD, a 2003 FXDL. The bike had set, barely would run and the carb was so full of gunk that I ruined a screw driver trying to back the pilot jet out. Also, previous owner was the second owner and didn't know if cam chain tensioners had been changed so I anticipated having to change them and thought I would do a cam change while inside.
Couple of things, the pilot jet was a 46 and the intermediate a 190 so I assumed somebody had been in the carb before. Also, there was a HD hose clamp on the fuel line so I assumed it was a Harley tech that had done the work.
I got it started today for the first time with a clean carb and it really lopes so I don't at all think it is a factory cam. I am going to crack my cam cover tomorrow to look at tensioners and am assuming I will find Screamin' Eagle cams. Assuming they are SE products, Are there any identifying features that will enable me to determine which cams I have with just the cam cover open?
Thank you.

I couldn't tell you about the markings on the cams I have in my 2002 FXD TC. It's been bumped up to a 95" kit with SE 203 cams. And yes there is a different lope to the engine, at 1000 rpms. Here's a suggestion for any carb work if you want to pursue it. Check out Knightrider.com and look for the drop down menu for modify the CV carb, also for good information check out Joe Minton's Harley-Davidson CV-carb tuning. I used those recommendations many, many years ago, the bike runs good and I haven't had to do anything to it for years, maybe adjust the idle when the seasons get warm.

Thank you. I will check out the carb info. I started with a 45/190 jet combo and was getting some popping and went to a 48/190 with two turns of idle screw. Only got popping a couple of times with that so may play with the idle screw a little. The bike is running really well right now, though.
