I went to change the oil (07 Dyna), and took out the wrong plug. I took out the plug facing the gorund, instead of the oil drain plug. What did I just drain, and what do I need to refill it. Also, where (which hole)do I re-fill it. I do not have a manual yet, and I am going to buy one for future reference. Thank you.

 

You either drained the primary or the transmission. The primary plug is on the left, and is filled by removing the 5 bolt cover directly above the plug. The transmission plug is on the right, and has a 7/16ths allen plug on top of it to fill through. You will need a funnel to fill the tranny.

Either one can be filled with formula+ from HD. However, I personally use mobil one full synthetic 75-90 in the tranny.

 

must be oil change day, you're the second post today, same subject. don't feel bad the manual is even incorrect. there is also a distinct difference in odor between motor oil and trans fluid. transmission holds 1 qt, crank case holds about 2.5 qt.

 

You drained the transmission!

 

She's all back together now. Oild and trans are back to full.

 

the correct plugs are also listed in the owners manual (at least mine, 06 FXDCI), no need for a shop manual. You wont go wrong by having a shop manual though. Live and learn I suppose.
