I wear a half helmet for putting around town on short rides and then have a 3/4 with face shield for longer trips, highway rides, etc.....

FullCoverage all the time, had an accident years ago and a fullcoverage helmet saved my head, actually fractured the front on both sides, but it held.

HJC CL-2. At 60+ the chin strap has to be pulled tight. I don't know if this is a 1/2 or 3/4 but I like it but I do feel like a mushroom head when I see pictures of my self with the that bucket on my head. I had a pretty spectacular spill 20 or so years ago and the Bell open face full that I was wearing was damaged pretty badly but I wasn't. So I wear one even though here in FL Idon't have to.

ACC DOT polo and non DOT half. Like the half had d-rings put on both the quick closure can pinch the sh@t out of you. Smiley

+1!

I've gotten accustomed to wearing my full face Shoei RF-1000 on my bike especially on longer trips, rain, or in Houston Traffic.

As LOW has said, it provides great ventilation, low noise, and you're paying for top-quality protection. Additionally, i should point out that it is considerably lighter than the majority of full-face helmets in the market (that are cheaper or pricier).

I've got the gloss black because I think that the matte ones absorb more of the heat from the sun.

And there's even one with pretty pink or baby blue butterflies available. [8D]

ORIGINAL: L0W R1D3R

I wear a Shoei RF-1000. It is full face, but as far as helmets go, it is as safe as it gets. I just started riding, so I don't know if I am going to make it through the Texas summer with a full face, but I am going to try. The RF-1000 is not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for. The vents in the helmet are excellent, I can adjust the level of wind coming in to remain cool. The inside of the helmet allows you to avoid all of the wind noise, but I can still hear the outside traffic which is a must for me. My helmet is matte grey and black, not one of those shiny in-your-face racing helmets. Try one on and see what you think.

I have a 3/4, half and novelty beanie. To be honest, I like the half the best. I do get some wind drag with it, and it looks like a mushroom, but its not a hot as the 3/4, and I have to have a DOt helmet to ride on base. Have a buddy that has the carbon fiber, and he swears by it. Looks sharp, lightweight, and no drag.

You are afraid you might look gay in a half helmet? Give me a break. You are a Harley owner, a rugged individulaist or so the advertising goes. Who gives a crap about what others think. I certainly wouldn't.

As to helmets, I've had many and all of them have been Snell approved. Currently I have a full black helmet made of kevlar. Soon I will be buying another full helmet. The next one will be white.

Good luck with your choice.

I splurged (well, a discount helped me to) on the HD Carbon Fiber full face FXRG. Best helmet I've ever owned. Light as hell. Really well ventilated. No wind drag. My one beef was there are pads in the front that were really hugging my face too much. . . Lo and behold, they are removable!

I also have a Bell "Drifter" half helmet I use for in town, non-highway riding sometimes. I like it, but I'm not the most attractive sight wearing it. Not that I am NOT wearing it!

I'm strong on the no helmet side of thehouse. But when I go into states (comunist states LOL) that require helmets I wear my novelty NON DOT German helmet with a Pike nut on top. Comes in handy for things like opening beer and stuff.lol

A little amazed by many of these posts. While I'm sure it's nice that the helmet matches you bike, and does not make you look like "Gazoo". A skid of your face on the rode without a full face helmet, will give you a lot more worries than looking cool and color matching.

Good friend just had contact with a concrete wall. A ZR1 full face saved his life. Also if you ride alone wear something that idenfies your next of kin, and blood type. I just had a dog tag made with that information on it.

People who wear a half helmet an sustain face damage, should be forced to cover a portion of the bill. Same thing with the idiots that ride with no helmet.
