Default Are Harley stock grips this bad?

I have the original set on my 2003 Superglide and the throttle grip seems to be "melting/sticky" on the end of the grip now for some reason.

Anyone else ever see this and is it normal for these grips to just start falling apart after so many years?

Seems like a lot of stuff on Harleys is made in China so not really surprised w/ the quality.

I'd say 13 years was a good run for any set of grips.

Because it's on the throttle side, it may have just been a combination of age, sunlight / UV and the glue used to stick the throttle tube, and rubber grip together.

Nothing stock is bad, people just like to fuss, be judgemental, exercise entitlement, and rage about production location

The grips withstood over aa decade of use and abuse. I have a few sets of grips you can have for free. They are just taking up space.

The ones on my ultra started getting "sticky" after about a year and a half.

Considering most HD owners ride between 500-1000 a year they should last forever.

Yup, the grips do exactly that after about 15 or 20 years. What crappy durability. Good thing is, you can go to your local dealership, and for about $20, you can get a new set that'll last likely another 15-20 years again. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes. Don't forget to buy a can of "Aguanet" aerosol hair spray for installation. Shouldn't be more than $2 at your local Chinamart. I bet there's even a "how to" for this procedure on yootoob...

My grips get that sticky feel and melted look every once in a while. Just pull them off and clean them up with some soap and water, good as new. It's just dirt and grease.

Any Grip with rubber in it does not like sweat and sun light if you ride without gloves and are getting hand sweat on your grips it is eating them up

After lasting 14 years I would look at it as a good reason to upgrade your grips.

Man, I would call this a damned decent life for grips.

Is your entire bike still stock? How many miles do you have on it? Any other parts that did not meet your expectations?

Serious questions, I am just intrigued by this
