Are Harley stock grips this bad?

Yup, the grips do exactly that after about 15 or 20 years. What crappy durability. Good thing is, you can go to your local dealership, and for about $20, you can get a new set that'll last likely another 15-20 years again. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes. Don't forget to buy a can of "Aguanet" aerosol hair spray for installation. Shouldn't be more than $2 at your local Chinamart. I bet there's even a "how to" for this procedure on yootoob...

I got these about 18 months ago from HD: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...09-56100010--1
The rubber portion has held up fine, but all of the metal trim has kind of changed from a true black to more of a purple... I just got some $18 rubber grips from Biltwell that seem very nice.
I do think the relatively simple and basic HD grips are pretty high quality and are fairly priced, though...

Bought a throttle side for $9.87 and the dealership had to order in a left grip for $10.96.
So, I guess you're right, it wasn't really "$20."
Still not bad though. It made a huge difference regarding "arm pump" too. My FXD had the stock "Buckhorn" bars for 21 years. Traded that bike in for an FXDL 2016 vintage. The new bike has much stronger brakes. I like that.

Actually, I replaced my stock Dyna grips about a year ago. This was on my FXD from 1994. After just under a quarter million miles, the grips were disintegrating on the bars. Got to where my gloves "stuck" to the spooge.
