That's normal... i wouldn't. I also would buy an oem. Hd has some nice floaters like the split 7. Take a look at the hd site.

NO_SPRK, I agree with cvaria; if you're still running the original brake lines change them out.
I've always felt the same about mushy DOT 5...

However...

When I did my Tokico caliper swap (keeping the HD master) I went back and forth on what to use. I spoke with a bunch of people about it... Spiegler (who made my brake lines) were hesitant to comment, other than to say that either would be fine in their lines. Speed Merchant, who made the adapter brackets, recommended staying with DOT 5. Their rationale (and I have no idea if this holds water*), was that the seals in the caliper would be happier going from 4 to 5, than the seals in the MC would be going from 5 to 4. Since I wasn't thoroughly rebuilding either (but completely cleaned and flushed everything), I went with Speed Merchant's recommendation and stayed with DOT 5.

Granted, the braided lines have a lot to do with it (and a really thorough round of bleeding), but after three or four months I still have one of the most solid feeling brake levers I've ever had on any motorcycle... We'll see if it stays that way over time.

...and the added bonus of keeping the same fluid front and back, and not using something that will eat through paint when spilled.

All of that said, if I was building a completely new system ground up I would use DOT 4!

*See asterisk above for lame attempt at brake fluid joke.

I went with HD floating rotors. This was a rare instance where the OEM pricing was actually very attractive, and the quality is quite good (although they aren't the lightest rotors I've ever used). Made by Sunstar for HD.
