EFI Tuner Advice
This winter I did a stage I upgrade to my 2014 fxdl. Bassani Road Rage Exhaust, RSD Venturi A/C... and wait for it... I was dumb enough to just let HD tune it for me thinking at the time they were actually going to do something helpful for me there.
I can definitely tell the tune is too lean for the bike but am a novice, I'd prefer to run a system that I can install myself. What would be your recommendation for a fuel tuner and why?
Thanks in advance and I already feel stupid enough about the factory tune so pile on if you must...

DynoJet Power Vision from Fuelmoto - a sponsoring vendor on this site. They will set you up with a custom tune made for your setup and with a few auto tunes you'll be 90% there. The other 10% you'll need a dyno tune for. They give you lifetime (I think?) support and will give you new tunes as you upgrade parts. Pretty much everyone who has dealt with them, loves them...
And don't feel bad, most of us have been there. I remember getting a stage 1 download just because I was afraid of warranty issues lol. Silly me.
As for why. The PV is a full tuner - it can be as basic as you are competent using, and as advanced as any dyno tuner would need. It can get at any table in the factory tune, change any value you would need. Plus its a download to the bike, and doesn't stay on it (unless you want to use the cool gauges it can provide) as opposed to something like the Power Commander which has to be on the bike to function.

Sorry to hear of your recent raping That dealer download is absolute garbage; as you've now found out...
Begin by reading this thread, it will really help clear up your different options HERE
When I finally moved in to a fuel injected HD I researched all my options and purchased a Power Vision from FuelMoto. The Power Vision is the finest full featured flash tuner you can buy. FuelMoto supplied a custom map for my specific configuration; from there I began to auto tune. My Wide Glide runs incredibly well. The more I've learned about the Power Vision as I've used it, the more impressed with it I am. With a Power Vision, as you continue to upgrade and made modifications it will continue to grow with you; purchasing from FuelMoto, I've got lifetime support for custom maps to begin my tuning when I begin heads and cams.
The PV is a more expensive option than say the FP3, but the additional money you spend on the PV is offset by the fact the Power Vision never runs out of capabilities...

As I am not planning on more than a stage one upgrade I went with the Fuel Moto MIcro Tuner for $150. Very much feel like the money was well spent.
I too had the HD tune but it was causing a lot of back firing when decelerating. The custom map Fuel Moto sent me for my Bassani 2-2 pipes took away all the exhaust popping and the bike feels much better. You can store a bunch of maps in the tuner too and even quickly (with just a screwdriver) add or remove fuel to the map to fine tune your bike.
It will basically come down to any future upgrades you plan on making, if your going to do cam and engine upgrades I would get the more expensive Fuel moto tuners, if your staying at stage one then I cant recommend the micro tuner high enough.

Can't say enough good things about the power vision. I got mine from Fuel Moto also. A couple auto tunes on the base map they gave me and my bike runs incredibly well. Could it run better with a full on dyno tune? Absolutely. But the difference between that and how it runs now is probably pretty small and not worth the several hundred dollars it would cost me.
