Default Cam selection

Im no mechanic though i have been the only one to work on my bike. But because im no mechanic i dont know about things like what cams to buy. I have an 03 with a mikuni 42mm 2 into 1 pipe and Stock 88 in motor.

I will eventually get new cylinders and heads. Wanna do the 96 in because i hear u dont have to mess with the crank and i dont want to open the cases.

In amy event. Given thia data i i wanted to buy cams now before jugs and heads what type of cams would i be looking at to get the best performance?

Looking at a set of andrews 37 n

I'm afraid I don't know much about that bike and can't recommend but I'm sure others will. There's also a pretty good cam thread within the engine section of this forum's mechanical section. You may also want to post there for some of the builders. Since you plan to do additional work later, you want to get a bolt in cam that will complement the new heads and such. Would you consider getting a recommended cam with a full build but just hold on until ready to do all the work or are you definitely going to install and then work in stages?

Lastly, if you haven't already researched the installation here is a link to my old thread. Different I'm sure with your bike given the probable need to have cams pressed into the plate which I didn't have to do, but may offer some guidance.

I've been there/done that a couple times; 88 to 95 and 103. I'll only use S&S E-Z starts from now on. Period. So mich easier on the starting system, save going the compression release route and work every time the stock starter button is pushed. Some indy's don't like 'em cause lack of upsales...

The 37 is a good cam especially if you plan to go to 95-98 ci.. It will be a little soft down low depending on the 2-1 pipe used.. They work real well with 88 ci Dynas and Cycle Shack mufflers on a stock head pipes.. The stock heads may not support a 48 cam.. Lift is too high..
