Default 1999 to present wide glides do you like oler or newer models?

hello my first post.

I used to own a 1999 wide glide that I bought brand new. paid it off in 3 years. but had to sell to a injury that I wasn't able to ride for a while. the only good thing was It was when used bikes were selling for new. I got what I paid for it. so not being riding or hanging out anywhere or looking at any shops ect. I know I have been so to say under a rock. so got the bug again
after all those years I can ride again. I went to go look at a new bike . I ask where the wide glides are took a look at them and its just me but I don't like the new wide glide looks.
to much is blacked out I liked the old style rear fender better. nice the have the bigger engine and 6 speed tranny. also it seems like all the cruiser models are pretty much all black . rims, engines controls. ect. I don't like the newer bike models. guess i am from the thought Harleys should be chrome boats. did find the softail deluxe with lots of chrome nice looks.

well i have now started looking at used 1999-2001 wide glides with low miles. since there pretty cheap. don't mind putting the upgrades in the engine. cam bearings. and cams maybe a 95" kit also.

My question is what are your guys opinions on the older vs, the new wide glide models. beside the bigger engine and 6 speed tranny.? am i missing some thing besides no chrome.
i attached a pic of my old wide glide 1999. seafoam and cream factory paint job.
thanks

Nothing at all wrong with the older Wide Glides. The engine size difference isn't anything that a 95" kit and a set of cams wouldn't make up for. Personally, I think the 6 speed is over rated. Sure it's nice on the highway, but to me the 5 speeds were geared better. There's not a huge advantage in fuel mileage either, probably because of the bigger motors.

Not a Wide Glide, but I have an older Lowrider which back in 2005 has the same rake as the Wide Glide. I kind of like the look of the older bikes with chrome.

The Wide Glide has a great look but the FXR was the best handling Harley ever built. I own a FXD which is built off the FXR platform. A little less cool looking then the WG but I have owned two of each and the SG out handles the wide Glide. I am building a softail which doesn't handle as well as either but looks cooler.

Buddy has an '05 WideGlide garage queen; carbed with hardly any miles. A gorgeous older bike...sure; there are a few upgrades that would benifit that motor and it's missing a few hundred yards of wire and sensors that the newer EFI bikes have, but it a classic in my eyes...
Wouldn't have an EVO myself...don't think they even teach techs on them anymore

If you have an Evo you don't need a tech. They are a very simple engine you can repair.

I like the older drivetrain and the newer frame/forks. If I had the dough, I'd probably get a new bike and do a carb conversion and complete electronics overhaul to barebones and ditch the CAN bus.

I like the look of the older wideglides ,especially rear fender. I don't like the look of the newer stock exhaust and rear fender.
