Default purpose of tank lifts

I've read a lot here about guys doing 2 or 3 inch tank lifts. It sounds like it helps cut down on the buffeting when using a windshield. Is that the main reason it's done? Are some doing it for looks? Is there another reason to do it? Thanks.

Most are doing it for looks. Looks a little more custom with the space between the tank and the head covers.

there are a few reasons. looks, wind blockage, easier to clean your rockers and better air flow to the engine for cooling. jackyl

I couldn't agree more. Got my tank lift today Jackyl & I love it. Only problem I had was I just filled up yesterday so I had to get my wife to pick up the tank while I got the bracket & bolts put in place.[sm=hail.gif] Great product & great price for anyone thinking about it.

What Jackyl said + my fuel light comes on closer to 1/4 tank of fuel (instead of 1/2).
I can, also now have about 60 miles of riding left when the fuel gauge indicates empty with a 3" lift.
I didn't gain any more mpg, though (LOL).
I don't think I could go back to the stock setup, since I did the lift.

I installed Jackyl's 2" lift today. Best mod I have done to my Wide Glide yet. Bike looks completely different and I can tell that the engine is a lot cooler. Also, the speedo is tilted up more which makes it a lot easier to see when riding. Jackyl makes a great product and this is the easiest install ever.
