Default '96 Dyna - inside rear fender width, what is correct bracket?

I have a '96 Dyna Low Rider that the previous owner installed a softail fender on. He also put a cateye taillight on it that mounted to an aftermarket (I suspect) chrome bracket that also put the license plate way far out (looked like a dirt bike). I moved the entire assembly in two inches, fabricated bracketry to reinstall the stock style taillight and added turn signals. The result looks great, but now the tire rubs under heavy weight (passenger or big bumps), due to the step down where the license plate mounts to. I'd like to simply use a stock taillight assembly/bracket but have had a hard time finding one that fits. The inside width of the fender is about 6 3/4 or so, is that standard? All of the brackets I've found so far are too wide, either by 1/4-1/2 inch or more. I'm tired of this project and want it done once and for all. Any thoughts?

Looks like a wide glide fender to me, but I'm not that familiar with softails. Maybe look into the wide glide rear light unit. I suspect, though, you won't much like the look.

I don't have a good picture showing the tail light and license mount in place, but this is my 99 WG with factory fender and license/light bracket. The light itself is the HD LED retrofit.

Yes, that's exactly the bracket that would fix my issues, but you're right...it doesn't look as clean as what I already have. The price I pay for the tucked setup is that the underside of the bracket where it bends from the taillight mount to license plate mount gets rubbed. I have no idea how bad that would be to simply leave it, especially if I put a passenger on there and we go over dips in the road.

I have a 96 low rider, if your asking for the measurement of the fender I can do that for you tonight when I get home.

You could maybe try a side mount. There various options that mount to the swingarm in different ways and in different orientations. Some also that mount to the shock in different ways.

I'm currently running a CycleVision In-Close Vertical

AH! I found a better rear-on pic. With both mounts in place.

Of course, you could also re-engineer your bracket. There must be a solution!

That picture is gold, thanks! I've thought about relocating the license plate there, but I don't know if it will interfere with saddlebags. That factory mount isn't awesome, but I wonder if I can trim it down a bit to clean it up... Now if I can find one..!

Yes, that's a good idea. I've found a few on eBay that look like the one in the photos.

97 (Evo) Wide Glide has damn near the same fender and license mount as the early Twink. It's a different part number but I'd bet there ain't much different just from comparing pics.
