Default My 2001 dyna to tall for me.

I just bought a 01 FXDP nice bike but I'm on my toes at a stop. It has 12.6" shocks on it. Thinking about lowering it to 11 - 11.5" but wonder if I'll lose that great ride in doing so. I've been searching about lower it but still unsure what to do. Had a harley lowering kit on my XL1200R and the thing rode rough, Thats why I got a dyna, don't want to get into the same type problem here. Any 5'6" people lowered there bikes? how does it ride and what did you use. I know the seat makes a diffrence also. Its got a nice seat on it and would hate to change it out. Will lowering the back shocks an inch lower the seat height 1"?
thanks

Check out other seat options. Sometimes the width of the seat can make a big difference.

Yeah I would first try seat,or what you need to know is what kind of dyna is it? some as in lowrider have really low ground clearance guy I know lowered one for his wife couldnt even go around a corner without scraping that can be dangerous! so how is your ground clearance now?

Don't know if they will work on an 01, but I bought a pair of Street Bob Shocks from someone on the forum for $30.00 and install them on my Super Glide. Lowered it about an inch. It sits better and I can't tell any difference in the ride.

May be a cheap way for you to try new shocks. If they don't accomplish what you want, you should easily be able to get your money back out of them.

The seat would make the biggest difference IMHO.

If you lower your bike don't skimp on shocks..A set of Progressive 440s will improve you ride while lowering your bike...But they're not cheap...I'll be swapping out my stockers on my Bob for a set this week(as soon as the arrive)Hope this helps...later

Maybe a dumb question but have you tried to adjust your shocks at all? The shocks on my Street Bob have almost an inch of adjustability built in.It made a big difference cornering clearance wise cranking them up if your not already at the bottom take em to the lowest setting and see if that helps.
