Default Tracking down an elusive electrical issue

It took a while....

I've had a problem for the last couple of months with an intermittent power loss in the ignition circuit.
The bike would run fine and then I'd stop somewhere and when I came out to leave, the bike would crank over but not start.
A couple of times I trailered it to the house and when I got it off the trailer, it would start right up and run fine.

I had an Ignition module in my shop, so I swapped it out.
I swapped out the bank angle sensor with one that I borrowed from a friend.
I swapped out the coil with a new one that I had.

No luck!

Last weekend I left the house on the bike and about a mile from home it just died, like I shut the key of....Same thing, crank/no start.

When I got it home, it wouldn't start either, so I started tracking it down...1/2 hour later, I found the problem.
It was the kill switch!
I swapped it out with a new one and took the old one apart and found it was a wire broken on the inside of the switch....Never seen one do that before.

Oh well....It's fixed now! I'm goin' for a ride!

Good job on tracking it down. Stuff like that can be a real challenge. Enjoy your ride!!!

Cool...I am having a similar problem, but think it may be the starter switch. When I hit the kill switch, I believe the fuel pump comes on each time....I have to check that one out though....but what is very intermittent is the crank of the starter. I think I may have a faulty switch....

Do you use the switch? I've never seen one fail and am curious as to why it failed. Fatigue, stress, bad install---
Glad you were able to find it before it left you somewhere bad..
