Dyna is best if you only have one biek, and you don't get to track days more than three or four times per year. Trade off is more comfort, for longer rides, with less track oriented riding. BMW 1150R gets old fast at legal speeds -

In my view, it's a lot more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than to ride a fast bike slow.

 

On the twistiest roads the Beemer will win; I've ridden them and a lot of others. My personal pick is still the Dyna (I've got only one road bike) andI looked hard for over half a year to find a clean FXDXT. It's been extensivly modded but a BMW will still leave me on the extreemly tight roads. You think a Harley is expensive to maintain? Check parts prices and availability for BMW's! The Moto Guzzi's are nicer looking in my mind and can sound good, too. Watch for some demo days and try some of the other stuff. For me, nothing else beats the all-round fun ofmy 103" Dyna...

My Low Rider has done everything but haul rocks for the driveway. And that's only because it don't like rocks.
I could see wanting a road king or something like that for a very long haul but I've made some short trips (300 miles or less) solo and two-up that didn't bother me to be on a dyna. The commute to work is fantastic as are any short trips around town. You can throw the dyna around pretty easily in traffic and on local curves without feeling that you were on the edge.
I could see wanting a Sportster for the local commute and "sporting" around town and the local urban area.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm trying to get myself in position to get one of each.

 

I've owned a number of bikes over the years including BMW's and 2 Dyna's / As an all around bike the Superglide is hard to beat. I had an FXDX and all around preferred it to my BWM k75s . The BMW handled better , and was faster , but not as good at relaxed putting.

I like my current Wide Glide 3better than anything else I've ridden.
The lowered suspension helps the handling , and whil it's no track bike it handles the twisties fine. I've taken several multi day trips and it works well.

 

I have owned both the R1150R andan 07Dyna Street Bob. This is a hard call. I like the Dyna better and that has to do mostly with feel. If you are concerned with service costs the Dyna is much less expensive. Service intervalsare about the same but the cost on the Harley is half that of the BMW. As far as speed goes the BMW is faster. I was surprised at how well the Dyna handles, to me it equals the BMW. The Dyna just feels better than the "R", and that isa really subjective call. Also if you put the tall seat on the BMW it affects the handling (CG). Changing seats on the Dyna seems to have no ill effect.

 

I love my StreetBob I put over a thousand miles a month on it just going back and forth to work...I wouldn't commute any other way...But if you want a track bike your barking up the long tree...My bob has plenty of get up and go but lets face it a GXR 750 will dust it...with half the displacement...I wouldn't trade my scooter for a ricer but I'm also not stupid enough to race one either....I stick to pickin on the sport car crowd...Where 13 seconds is a fast 1/4...Later

 

Just traded in a bmw r1150r for a Street Bob. Great bike the bm but when i tested the Bob i just loved it.Wall to wallgrin a whole new world just opened up.As for track days i don,t think either bike could make a serious track bike,weight and ground clearance being the issues. Best to have a good test ride on both and then buy the Harley.Cheers Bry.

My wife bought an 06 Dyna for me last fathers day and it took a long time to warm up to after riding Sportsters for many years. The last Sportster, a very fast modified 1200S (I still have), is a real kick in the *** to ride. It will eat the Dyna for lunch! On the otherhand, I haven't done much to the Dyna and I have 'warmed up" to it. It actually handles better than the Sportster but you will scrape the pipes and pegs a bit. Much more fun with two on it. Get the Dyna, better overall street bike or get the Sportster if adrenalin is your thing and you want to modify it.

Can't go wrong with a Superglide. Good value for the money, and leaves the wallet with enough fat to modify the scooter to your personal tastes.
