99 lowrider is it worth it?
I am still looking to buy a bike and not sure i wanna go in to debt any more than i have too. I figure if i buy an older bike that will leave more money for customizing it. I found a 99 harley lowrider with 14,000 miles for 5,000. This will be my first harley(not first bike) but what i wanna know is do you think this is a good deal or should i keep looking? Also have heard some bad things about the twin cam 88 do you think that would an issue?

That is a nice looking LR! I did a quick check on that model and year and prices are all over the place on the interweb. NADA shows low retail at $3700 and high retail at $4880 which seems to be what is happening on Craig's List. Based on all of this, $5K seems a little on the high side for me...I think that if you cannot make a better deal on this one, certainly can find a better deal on a newer model if you are patient and do some digging around...don't settle on what is convenient, not at this price...you will NOT regret it...

Thanks for the replies I am going to check it out in the morning. Tattooedcaptain Did you change out to a gear drive came or do anything with those cam shoes i have been reading all the horror stories about? Also what all did u have to do to change it to 103 i saw a 98 ci big bore kit for it on fuel moto. ALso did you have to with a different carb with the 103? I really wanted to get a new bike but i figure i can ride this one for a while and it will save me a lot of money. I mean if its nice and in good shape.

I went with the hydraulic tensioners and higher flow oil pump. The CV carb I had didn't cut it, so I went with the 45mm Mikuni. I went mostly Screamin Eagle from the flywheel up. I regret not getting compression releases, had to upgrade to a 2.0kw starter and Primo Rivera 66tooth ring gear.
