Default Replacement barrel key.

I went to my local locksmith to have a second key made, and after three tries now the replacement is not working. Are we missing something ? Factory key works great, but when I put in the replacement key it won't turn other than a little bit towards the back. Forward toward ignition doesn't budge.

Take your registration with your VIN number to a dealer, and they can order a set of replacements. I forget how much it cost me, but it wasn't much, maybe like 15 dollars.

Took a key with the key code on it to the dealer (on the key behind the plastic protector). Had a new working key in just a minute or so. They can get the code using the VIN but code in hand simplifies the process.

Those I've dealt with wanted to see proof of ownership, and check that against your ID (That's why the title or registration). They don't want to be handing out keys to just anyone.
But you can call first and find out.

Locksmith says he made them for people before and they work fine. Has anyone had a key made by a locksmith that works ?

I had 3 made by a Lock Smith and had no problem on a 2003 FLHTPI. Maybe he could try a different brand of blank.

Yeah, I've had several made by locksmiths too and never had an issue.

I have a locksmith on staff who made me one and I have had no issues with it. Maybe you found a locksmith that isn't very good?

Had one made for my 03 FXD. Worked fine. Only difference was that Harley key had a small hole in the side that received a detent ball in the lock to keep the key from falling out in the off position.
