The FXRT / FXRP "Style" Dyna Fairing Thread
#61
I didn't use a JD fairing, but I did use a similar one and currently run a daymaker copy I bought of eBay for like $115. I couldn't tell the difference between the nameless Chinese copy on eBay or the Chinese copy that various web resellers mark up.
To install though- I purchased the Harley daymaker mounting ring/adapter (68124-04B) and fitted that to a stock bucket where the adjustable ring part of the bucket would normally fit. Due to the LED being deeper than a halogen assembly, I had to mod the stock bucket to make the hole in the back bigger so the back of the headlight could stick through a little. Took 3 minutes with a dremel.
This was necessary though because if you try to use only a stock bucket, you will have fitment issues- most likely the trim ring will not fit correctly on the bucket due to the lamp sticking out too far. You could force it, but basically it looks like sh*t. Good luck.

From reading through this so far:
BMC offers a complete kit with everything you need, but its the most expensive
Deviant has the fairing with glove boxes already installed, but according to some the bracket isn't the best (aluminum?)
JD seems to be the cheapest (JD's + a Moons MC headlight would still be the cheapest option and a 'complete kit' if you but the bucket and trim ring from JD), but it doesn't have glove boxes.
Also, seems like bikes in this thread are usually setup 2 ways:
FXRT fairing, lowers, clamshells or FXRT fairing and T-Sport bags. Anyone regret not going all out with the lowers & clamshells? I'm trying to get this right the first time around..
