Default 40 amp regulator with 38 amp stator

Replacing regulator and stator, would running a 40 amp regulator with a 38 amp stator be fine. Have an 06 dyna. Thank you

In my 2008 Dyna manual, it describes the regulator as 35-50 AMPS. I would put the correct part number on there. We talking OEM or aftermarket?

Drag after market, ordered them based off year and model of my motorcycle.

Having a regulator, with a higher capacity than your stator/rotor, is fine. The reverse would not be good.

Just need to make sure of the phases... is it a 2-phase or 3-phase alternator setup? ( 2 conductor wire or 3 conductor wire )

Started to bring the point of a mated match but not sure how to sinse I have been trying to figure the phase out even for a Harley OEM for a long time. I had assumed 2 wire was two phase but another user says no. Know most places refer to the old two wire as single phase... Might want to read here. If you go aftermarket, they should be paired. Going OEM and part number will always work.
