Default cam chain tensioner clarification

Hi all,
I got an 09 Fatbob last spring and just put her away for the winter. It has about 13k on the clock. Motor is completely stock. (96 cu. in, just intake, pipes and tuner)

I'm toying with the idea of having the dealer do the 15k inspection/maintenance, but after looking at what they do, I'm not sure its really worth it as I can do most of what they will do... I do regularly change oil in all 3 holes myself.

I did have a question about the cam chain tensioners - I read alot about how HD did have issues with these, but seemed to have remedied the issues by the time my 09 was built - is this correct?

Also, with 13k miles, is there anything I should be keeping my eye on that are known issues? Thus far I have really had 0 issues, but I'd like to be proactive more than reactive.

The cam chain tensioner issue was associated with the 2000-2006 bikes. In 2007 they remedied the problem. IMO the whole thing was way overblown anyway. I owned 3 bikes, an 02 an 03 and an 04. None of them had any issue with the cam chain tensioner. I made it a point to check them every time I did a fluid change.

On my 06 Fat Boy the rear shoe was about 60% worn at 21K miles, but like I said that was on a 2006 TC88. You should be good on a 2009.

I believe all Dynas had the hydraulic tensioners beginning with the 2006. A year later on some of the other models.

You'll still want to to check them when you approach 40k... that's when most of them wear out... yes, the hydraulic ones.

The hydraulic tensioners aren't a complete remedy, but are a vast improvement. They're still wear parts and a failure could be catastrophic. I plan on checking mine somewhere in the 35-40K range and at regular intervals thereafter. You should be fine at 13K.

I just checked my tensioners on my bike. Less than 50% wear on them and I have 45,000 miles on bike. Will check again around 60,000 miles.
