The 96 is a stroked 88 so the difference is actually in the length of the stroke, not the bore of the cylinders...so same size bore on those cylinders as your stock 88s.
The 96 cylinders would work, but nothing for you to gain.
The 96 pistons have a different wrist pin location so they won't work with your 88 connecting rods.
The heads and cylinders are interchangeable and if you get a set of 2006+ heads, they have better flow than the older ones...just can't use stroker pistons.
Does that make sense?
BigPete on here has economical big bore kits...I have used 2 of them and both bikes run great. Both are 95".
