What seat for no ass on a FXDWG?
#12
I have a Mustang Wide Tripper on my 15 DWG. I rode around for about 200 mi before I took it on a longer distance ride. About three weeks ago I went from Alpharetta GA to Augusta GA with only one stop for gas (10min). 2hr 45min and 175 mi one way. Rode back the next day. Had no problems at all. And I'm part of the no *** crowd too. In fact, my friends used to call me crack back. :-)
FYI, I have the backrest for those longer rides. The seat feels like it pushes me forward about an inch but because of the back rest I feel like I have better control of the bike. Could be mental but I swear it makes me a better rider.
Hope this helps.

I know seat choice greatly depends on the rider. I cannot determine what seat might actually work well for me after searching through dozens of old topics on here.
Problem I have is after 30 miles on the stock seat, my *** starts hurting like hell. I don't have much of an *** which doesn't help obviously. I had a Mustang Vintage Solo Wide on my 1200 Custom before I got the Dyna. It wasn't a bad seat, but I wasn't terribly impressed with it. Never felt comfortable with it moving me forward a little bit. Comfort seemed better than the stock seat on that bike, but it wasn't exactly the great leap forward I was hoping for.
Since my issue seems to be with my sitting bones getting sore quickly (and it feels like it is absorbing all of vibrations on the road) is there anyone else who has that tendency? If so, what seat did you wind up getting, and did it make a big difference?
I had thought about trying the Solo Day Tripper Wide with backrest this time instead of the Vintage, but I don't know if this would be more of the same. I looked at the Corbin website, but I know people say Corbin tends to run on the harder side, and I don't know if very hard is what I need.

My solution is to take the staples out of the stock seat and carve down the foam to my liking. #1 saves you money#2 what have you got to lose. If you mess it up you are going to buy a new one anyway. I rode my WG that way for years and just did it to my new RG. IMHO less is more with seats( and yes I have a skinny ***) Just re-staple cover when you are finished.

Consider looking at Saddlemens Profiler, SaddleGel is amazing on that seat, firm but you'll sink right into comfort quickly, I can go all day. I just installed a Tripper for my solo runs and I think it's going to be a perfect fit, almost feels identical to my Profiler.
After riding bicycles for many years, siting on a skinny piece of carbon fiber or a Brooks leather saddle, I even found some comfort in my stock HD Seat.
Heres the Saddlemen on my 04 FXDI with the WG fender, and the Tripper.

While most of the recommendations already posted are great and I agree with them another suggestion is to replace it with a decent HD seat. You should look at lower back support as much as anything else. I put a FLD Switchback seat on mine and it was a big improvement over stock and it actually looks very good. I do realize it my not be as comfy as some of the other recommended seats but it also cost considerably less than any of the other recommendations.
