My friend just put throw back pythons on his super glide and is getting popping on backfiring on deceleration. Is this normal?

 

Normal, won't hurt a thing. It was doing that with the stock pipes but he couldn't hear it. If it bothers him there are ways to tune it to make it go away.

It's too lean. That's why it's popping. Fatten it up and the popping will go away. So will his fuel tank range...
