Default DK out law vs SE air cleaner question

I currently have a SE chisel billet extreme air cleaner on my wide glide. I don't really like my current air cleaner, I feel like it's too bulky and when I'm riding I have to rest my knee on it. I'm thinking about switching to a DK customs high flow 587 air cleaner. My question is, would this be a downgrade in performance or are they pretty much equal? I like the low profile of the DK, plus it has an external crankcase breather.

Pretty sure all the High-Flow A/C's will give most motors all the air they can take, so should be no change. I have a Zippers A/C (K&N based) and was told by my Dyno guy no problem to switch to any other K&N based A/C - just don't put stock back on.

I switched to a DK Outlaw from an SE setup earlier this year and I love the lower profile. Ever since I extended my forwards, the SE would push my knee out uncomfortably, the DK is way more comfortable, looks nicer, and performs just as well if not better.

That what I wanted to hear. I really wish I didn't buy the SE cleaner. $350 down the trash unless I can sell it.

Also with the DK you can easily set it up with the external breather kit which is really nice to have. You have to modify the SE setup to do that.

If my bike didn't already have a Arlen Ness AC when I got it I would have bought the DK 587 with the external breather kit.

If anything it would probably be an upgrade as the DK doesn't vent into the intake.

Good call on this. I forgot to mention that I got the complete kit with the breather bolts and it's noticeable difference, I've actually had to clean oil off of my battery cover because of them spewing out the oil that normally gets recycled to the engine with SE ACs.

Peace of mind knowing that my is breathing only cool fresh air is worth the upgrade alone IMO.

Yea it's definitely nice knowing that your engine is breathing nice clean air. I modified my big sucker to an external breather setup with hoses so it pukes away from my engine. Cost me about $15 for fittings and hoses.

If the OP decides to add the discreet breather to his 587 I think it's only like $12 more and totally worth it.

I sold mine (after switching to DK). You can get some money from it.
DK is pretty much the best flowing you're gonna find. Yes, tune will be the same also.

I have a DK with an amsoil oilless filter. Great filter and performance. The only negative is that the clear plexiglass that came with the model I bought, I ended painting black cause the plexiglass would get spider cracks that looked horrible in the sunlight, I ended up getting a new one but same problem.
