Default Air Cleaner cover question

This may be addressed somewhere else but I have a question. I recently installed a S&S stealth kit and put the stock cover back on. The bike 07 fxd had slash cut exhaust on when I bought it and ran hot, had the stage 1 download done when air cleaner kit was done. Is it best to use the stock football cover or one that leaves the filter exposed? Does one make a difference over the other?. Thanks

Some of the ovals work with the se kit. Parts dude can help. I have the chrome old school harley symbol on my cover.

You can run it open or with the stock cover. I chose to use my stock cover with the V&H vo2naked

Thanks, does running it open have any performance advantage or disadvantage? I prefer the open look personally.

i have been running them open for years. I dont think there is any change in performance. I always put the cover back on when i go on trips.

I run mine as is. I like the extra leg room and looks great to me. I highly doubt that there's any performance difference either way...

The only performance benefit may be from being able to bring in the cooler dense air versus the hot air straight off the engine. Doubt anyone has done a dyno to see the difference... but if someone has some info I'd like to know too.

Thanks, I am really not sure what the size is and the bike is in the shop getting a new starter and ring gear installed so I can't measure. I "think" the are 6inch but can't swear to it. I found it on ebay.
