Default My Last Ride On My Dyna

Was on a couple hundred mile ride Sunday and the dude riding behind me said the back end of my bike was wobbling around pretty bad. It was handling OK, so I never thought much about it.

President of our chapter works at an indy shop, and told me to bring it in today for them to check it out.

I knew the bike had been wrecked before, but I never had any issues with it except the bars were always a little to the right when riding. Tires wore good, so I never worried about it.

I dropped it off and rode his bike home. An hour or so later he told me to drive down...pouring rain at the time. My damn frame had a slight bend in the down tubes, and a section in the rear of the frame had been broke, and someone had tried to weld it back together.

He found a factory Harley WG frame at an out of state dealership for $2, 245 with tax and shipping. Total would be around $4K for everything to be swapped out and the frame cost.

I didn't pay much more than that for the bike. Spending that kinda cash on a bike and not being able to see any added coolness would suck in great multitudes.

Then he said for about the same price he could score me a 2" stretch 38 degree rake soft tail frame. He said he's modded numerous of these frames to fit a 88 TC A motor.

Guess I'll be moving to the soft tail section in a few weeks.

Gonna have a lot of Dyna parts for sale soon.

Those motors are waaaay different as far as how they fit in a frame. You're probably better off having the frame straightened and welded. Or have a rigid conversion done

Glad to hear it didn't cause you to wreck. I'm with you on not spending that money just to have the bike look the same. The aftermarket frame is an interesting option, but I'd also consider parting yours out and buying another bike.

Softtail conversion sounds interesting. So do you end up with a non-counterbalanced rigid mounted motor, or does he rubbermount it?

I asked about that today, he'll weld in motor mounts so it will still be rubbermount. It would rattle the filings out of my teeth if he rigid mounted it.

Looked at similar frames yesterday. Decided I wanted to go soft tail.

I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out.

Frame should be in, in a couple weeks. I'm going with an old school FL type rear fender. He's painting all my tins gloss black, and having my fork sliders, and tree's powder coated gloss black when the frame is getting powder coated.

The owner of the shop has been building custom bikes for years. If you have an idea of something you want, he'll make it.

My bike should be finished in 4 weeks, I'm planning on 5.
